William
Courtney
Mar 9, 1939 — Jan 2, 2026
Mr. William Courtney, age 86, of Paxton, Florida, passed away peacefully on January 2, 2026. He was born in Crestview, Florida, the son of the late Laddie Courtney and Claudia York Courtney.
William devoted 35 years of faithful service as a civil servant at Eglin Field, where he was known for his dependability, strong work ethic, and the respect he earned from his co-workers. Never one to sit still, William also worked countless side jobs throughout his life—he simply enjoyed staying busy and being productive.
Outside of work, William had a deep love for music and rhythm. He loved to dance and was an accomplished drummer. In his early years, he played for the renowned artist Jerry Lewis and was even invited to join the Jerry Lewis Band and go on tour—an opportunity he chose to humbly decline. Music remained a lifelong joy and expression of who he was.
William was affectionately known as "Paw Paw" to his grandchildren, a name he cherished deeply and wore with pride. He also had a warm charm and a genuine appreciation for companionship, enjoying conversation, laughter, and the company of others—especially the ladies—bringing joy and lightheartedness wherever he went.
In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Frances Courtney, and his daughter, Terry Leisner.
He is survived by his granddaughters, Tanya Hull and her husband, Kirk, and Jessica Leisner; and by his great-grandchildren, MacKenzie Smith, Ethan Smith, and Dallison Hull.
A celebration of life service for Mr. William Courtney will be announced by Evans Funeral Home.
His legacy of hard work, music, warmth, and love for family will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.
