William "Steve" Byrd Sr. passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, October 26, 2024, at his home in Woodstock, GA, with his beloved wife by his side. Born on August 25, 1962, he celebrated his 62nd birthday this year. Steve married his soulmate, Sherry Lynn Thompson, on December 18, 1982, and they would have marked their 42nd wedding anniversary this year.

An Alabama native, Steve grew up in Florala, AL where lifelong friends and fun memories were made. Together with Sherry, he raised their family between Florida and Georgia. A devoted family man, he cherished every chance he got to visit his son and daughter, both part of military families. Known for his love of gift-giving, college football, and a deep care for those around him, Steve will be missed dearly by all who knew him.

Steve is survived by his loving wife, Sherry Byrd; his son, W. Steven Byrd Jr. (Amanda); daughter, Samantha Thrash (John Michael); mother, Martha Byrd; mother-in-law, Ernestine Gennell; father-in-law, Robert Gennell; and grandchildren, W. Gunner Byrd, Waylon Byrd, Willow Thrash, and Sunny Thrash. He is also survived by his brother, Marty Byrd (Kaylyn); brother-in-law, Nathan Thompson (Sue); sisters-in-law, Tami Estrada (Michael), and Ginny Bell (Chris); his Uncle John Johnston and Aunt Ophelia Fuqua; and numerous beloved nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Steve was preceded in death by his father, William "Hubbart" Byrd.

A time of visitation with our family will start at 2:00 PM. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at Evans Funeral Home in Florala, AL with Reverend Brent Zessin officiating. Interment will follow at Greenwood Memorial Cemetery in Florala, AL.
