Voncile Leddon
Spivey
Jun 2, 1944 — Oct 24, 2021
Voncile Leddon Spivey of Andalusia, passed away on October 24, 2021. She was born on June 2, 1944, north of Elba, Alabama, to RJ and Cupidean Leddon. She graduated from Walton County High School in 1962 and later attended Riley Business School in Dothan, Alabama, earning a diploma in Medical Doctor Administrative Assistance.
Voncile met the love of her life, Wesley Spivey, in July of 1961, on a blind date. Their first date was to a camp meeting revival at Spivey Campground. That evening marked the first of many worship services they would attend together, as Wesley answered his call to the ministry shortly after they were married, and she answered her call as a pastor's wife.
Voncile was creative and loved decoupage and ceramics. While living in Hartford, Alabama, she had a ceramics studio that was a favorite gathering place. She also managed a day care while living there. In Panama City, Florida, she worked for a group of midwives and then for an OB/GYN doctor. In Demopolis, she worked as an administrative assistant for the high school.
Voncile was always beside her husband, serving the Lord with him. Together they loved to fish, travel and spend time with family. She loved the Atlanta Braves and watched their final game to go to the World Series with her son the night before she died. Voncile was fervently committed to her family and worked hard at making their house a home, no matter where they lived. Eating supper together at the table every night was a hard and fast rule. She loved plants and birds, especially hummingbirds. She never promoted herself and was selfless with her time, always ready to serve. Her hands were never idle. She had a sharp mind and wit and loved to laugh. She touched many lives with her plain, unassuming, straightforward ways. Voncile will be deeply missed by family and friends.
Voncile was preceded in death by her parents, RJ Leddon, Sr. and Cupidean Grant Leddon; and her brothers, Leo Leddon, Jim Leddon, Bill Leddon and Chester Leddon.
Voncile is survived by her loving husband of over 59 years, John Wesley Spivey; her children, Tammy (David) Wells and John Spivey; her grandchildren, Jeremy (Rachel) Shank, Sarah (Chris) Corscadden, Izzi Wells and Raven Spivey; her sister, Bonnie (Ben) Webb; her sisters-in-law, Faye Leddon and Gabriele Leddon; and her brother-in-law, Ben Spivey.
Funeral services for Voncile Leddon Spivey will be 3PM Friday October 29, 2021 at Evans Funeral Home with Rev. David Wells, Rev. Ken Jackson and Rev. Tim Trent officiating. Visitation will be 1 hour before services. Interment will be in Gaskin Cemetery.
