Sylvia Jackson
Pound
Sep 25, 1954 — Nov 3, 2026
Florala
Sylvia Jackson Pound, age 72, of Florala, Alabama, passed away November 3, 2026. She was born September 25, 1954, the daughter of Floyd Jackson and Willie Hughes Jackson.
Sylvia was a dedicated employee of Walmart, where her hard work, humility, and kindness earned the respect of her coworkers. What she treasured most about her work was the opportunity to meet and greet the people who came through the doors. She enjoyed seeing familiar faces, visiting with customers, and offering a friendly welcome. Those everyday connections brought her great joy and made her work especially meaningful.
When her health allowed, Sylvia enjoyed tending her vegetable garden and caring for the flowers that brought beauty to her home. She also loved crocheting, finding pleasure in creating something with her own hands. Her cats held a special place in her heart, and she lovingly cared for the little colony that made its home with her. Her devotion to them reflected her tender heart and nurturing spirit.
Above all, Sylvia loved her family. To her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she was “Nana,” a name she cherished. It spoke of the love she gave, the comfort of her presence, and the special place each of them held in her heart. Being their Nana was one of her greatest joys.
Sylvia’s faith in Jesus Christ was her strength through life’s most difficult days. The loss of her husband, Louis, and her son, Jamie, to COVID within a short time of one another brought a sorrow beyond words. As she faced the heartbreak of saying goodbye to two people she loved so dearly, she leaned upon the Lord for the strength to keep going. Her faith did not erase her grief, but it sustained her through it, offering comfort in her loneliness and hope in the promise of eternal life through Jesus Christ.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Pound; her son, Jamie Pound; her father, Floyd Jackson; and her sister, Evelyn Sanders.
She is survived by her mother, Willie Hughes Jackson; her daughter, Jennifer Pybus (Jeff); her sister, Joy Collinsworth; her grandchildren, Ima Pybus, Callie Pybus, and Kalista Howard; and her great-grandchildren, Mackinlee Howard and Vincent Hill.
Funeral services for Sylvia Pound will be held Saturday, November 7, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Evans Funeral Home, with Johnny White officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at North Creek Cemetery.
