Obituary

Rex was born in Florala, Al, and lived in Paxton, Fl. for the last thirty-odd years. He passed after being diagnosed with Cancer in November 2021. He loved fishing of all kinds from Red Snapper to even winning the local Bass tournament with his son Daryl. Nothing made him happier than showing his grandkids the proper fishing techniques at his pond. On weekends when not fishing he enjoyed watching Nascar or taking in a local dirt track race. Between all the fishing and racing he truly enjoyed his time at the Casino. Lord knows he and Daniel gave it hell. Rex joined the Army and qualified as a sharpshooter before being stationed in Germany where he worked in fleet maintenance. After his Army service ended Rex worked as a welder at Dorsey Trailer in Elba, Al. before taking a position as Service Manager at Mcdaniel Motor Company in Florala. After Mcdaniel's closed he moved on to aircraft maintenance with Fairchild in Crestview, Fl. Upon gaining his A&P license he traveled to Louisiana, Mississippi, and Arizona where he worked on many different aircraft, all of which he strived for perfection, and enjoyed talking about the refits and repairs he had completed.

Rex was preceded in death by his parents KB Bess, Myrtice Hammond Bess Todd, and brother Royce Bess. He is survived by two sons, Daryl (Angel) Bess, Alvin (Betsy) Bess, grandchildren Eric (Alicia) Bess, Keri Bess, John (Ashley) Bess, Darlene Bess, Kristina (Allen) Cassady, Mealinda Bess, with many great-grandchildren, five sisters, Evelyn Mitchell, Dorothy (William) Daughtry, Jimmie Nell Stewart, Judy (Ed) Williams, Joyce Leddon. He is also survived by the mother of his two sons, Glenda Bess, special friend Nancy Schofield, and fishing buddy Gary Schofield.
