Penny Hobby
Copley
Dec 21, 1953 — Oct 22, 2026
Florala
Penny Hobby Copley was a free spirit whose adventurous heart, colorful personality, and love of life made her unforgettable. A resident of Florala, Alabama, Penny passed away October 22, 2026. Born in England, she was the daughter of Robert Hobby Jr. and Clista Jean Proccocino.
Penny lived life her way, embracing adventure and gathering stories that few others could tell. Her work as an industrial painter took her to extraordinary heights, quite literally. Secured in a rope harness more than 250 feet above the ground, she painted towering water tanks with courage, determination, and a steady hand. Where many would have seen a reason to turn back, Penny saw another day’s work and another adventure. It was a remarkable occupation for a woman who never seemed destined for an ordinary life.
Her adventurous spirit also carried her into the world of rock and roll. She traveled with a band and, during that chapter of her life, dated the manager of the popular band Dr. Hook. She also spent time among the Hells Angels, adding another colorful chapter to a life filled with experiences, unexpected turns, and memories uniquely her own. Penny followed her own path, and those who knew her will always remember the fun, excitement, and unmistakable personality she brought wherever she went.
In her later years, Penny faced many difficult health challenges. Through those struggles, she turned her life over to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, finding comfort, strength, and hope in His love. Her faith became precious to her, sustaining her through pain and reminding her that she never faced her trials alone. The woman who had lived with such an adventurous heart came to know the peace of resting that heart in the care of her Savior.
Among all the experiences of Penny’s life, being a grandmother held a special place in her heart. She relished that role and dearly loved her grandchildren, Jamie, Alyssa, and Benie. They were a treasured part of her life, and her love for them will remain an enduring part of their memories.
Penny was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Hobby Jr. and Clista Jean Proccocino.
She is survived by her daughter, Crystal Musalo; son, Jamie Lovett; sisters, Margaret Hobby and Tina Scofield; brothers, Ricky Hobby Sr. and Timothy Hobby (Brenda); and grandchildren, Jamie, Alyssa, and Benie.
Penny leaves behind the memory of a life fully lived, a life of courage, adventure, laughter, and, ultimately, a deep and abiding faith. Her free spirit and the love she shared will live on in the hearts of those who knew her.
A celebration of life for Penny Copley will be announced by Evans Funeral Home.
