Obituary

Mary Nell Finley, 92, of Laurel Hill, FL passed away on Saturday, February 22, 2025 at Eden Memory Care Unit in Crestview, FL. Mary was born in Warren, AR July 8, 1932 to the late Trenton Preston Atkinson Sr and Ruth Broach Atkinson.

She was preceded in death by her husband O. W. "Bullet" Finley, daughters, Cynthia Finley Hughes and Kathy Lynn Finley, sisters, Martha Atkinson Welch, Patsy Atkinson Yarnell and Betty Sue Atkinson Brown.

Mary was survived by her sons, Howard Finley (Angie) and Kelly Finley (Dannette), grandchildren, Wayne King, Dakota Finley (Laura), Hannah Finley Farias (Filipe), Clay Finley (Kaylee) and Clint Finley (Lindsey). She had seven precious great grandchildren-Mason, Juniper, Olive, Lulu, Emmy, Holly and Chelsea, sister, Sandra Atkinson Petty (Bill), brother, Trenton Preston "Mickey" Atkinson Jr, (Josie). There are also numerous beloved nieces and nephews.

Mary Nell was a loving mother and wife. She and her husband Bullet moved to the Children's Home community in 1969. She lost her husband in 1971 and finished raising four children as a single mom.

She was an amazing cook and loved to share her creations with her family, friends, guests and people in the community. She was always preparing meals and baking cookies/cakes for community folks in need or just because she loved them.

She always loved helping to decorate for any events, home or community. You could always expect her home to reflect the current season with all the colors and decor.

Mary Nell, also known as Nanny, was always up for a good game of scrabble or card game but be prepared to lose, she was very good.

As grandkids grew older her home became the hunting lodge for all the kids and grandkids that came to hunt. It became a tradition for Nanny to have a large breakfast ready for them as they came out of the woods.

After declining health in 2021 Mary moved into Eden Assisted Living Facility where she received great care and love. We'd also like to thank Vitas Hospice and her nurse Chelsea for exceptional care and love once moved into the memory care unit.

Mary's services will be at Evans Funeral Home in Florala, AL on Friday, February 28, 2025. Visitation at 1:00pm and Funeral services will follow at 2:00pm. Interment will be in Paxton Cemetery.
