Obituary

Marcus L. Tyson, Sr., age 47, of Tallahassee, Florida (formerly of Florala, Alabama), answered the most important call of his life on June 5, 2026, at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital, when the Lord Jesus Christ called him home. The gates of eternal life opened and welcomed Marcus into the loving arms of his Savior.

Marcus was born September 28, 1978, in Homerville, Georgia, to Georgia Mae Tyson Gundrum and Romanuel Gundrum, Jr.

At an early age, he confessed Christ as his Lord and Savior and was a member of the First African Baptist Church in Florala, Alabama, until relocating out of state.

Marcus graduated from Florala High School in 1998. Following graduation, he moved to Douglas, Georgia, where he discovered his true passion and became the proud father of two children. Starting from humble beginnings at a local grocery store, Marcus worked in the meat department, where he learned invaluable lessons about hard work, dedication, and responsibility. He excelled as a meat cutter and took great pride in his profession. The skills he developed allowed him to work wherever opportunities in the meat industry were available.

Marcus later relocated to Tallahassee, Florida, where he met and married the love of his life, Sandria Tyson, on June 5, 2017. During their nine years of marriage, he remained her faithful companion, steadfast supporter, and devoted husband. Marcus also embraced the role of father and mentor to his bonus daughter, Bree, whom he loved dearly. He treasured the time they spent together and valued every opportunity to encourage, teach, and support her.

Marcus will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his love for his family, his generous spirit, and his unwavering devotion to those he loved.

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving and faithful wife, Sandria Tyson; his three beloved children, Marcus "M.J." Tyson, Jr. of Ambrose, Georgia, Bree West Tyson of Tallahassee, Florida, and Lillian "Lele" Tyson of Ambrose, Georgia; his parents, Georgia Mae Tyson Gundrum and Romanuel Gundrum, Jr.; his sister, Ursula (Eric) Page; his brother, Reggie Gundrum; his niece, Haven Gundrum, all of Florala, Alabama; along with a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives, and many friends whose lives were blessed by knowing him.

Funeral services for Marcus L. Tyson, Sr. will be held Saturday, June 20, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. from the First African Baptist Church in Florala, Alabama, with Reverend James Doster officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.

Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.

Though our hearts are saddened by his passing, we rejoice in knowing that Marcus has received the promise of eternal life and now rests peacefully in the presence of the Lord.
