Louise
Strickland
Aug 17, 1937 — Jun 8, 2026
Mrs. Louise Newberry Strickland, age 88, of Florala, Alabama, passed away peacefully on June 8, 2026.
Louise was born on August 17, 1937, in Florala, Alabama, to Kermit and Maebe Newberry. A lifelong resident of the Florala community, Louise was known for her strong work ethic, her devotion to family, and her unwavering faith.
For many years, Louise worked in the textile industry, where the work was often demanding and physically challenging. Like so many women of her generation, she spent long hours helping provide for her family through hard work, determination, and sacrifice. She was respected by her coworkers for her dependability, kindness, and dedication, and she took great pride in doing her part to care for those she loved.
Louise found great joy in cooking, especially when preparing meals for her family. Her kitchen was a place of love, fellowship, and treasured memories. She also enjoyed taking afternoon drives through the Florala area, around the lake, and throughout the community she loved so dearly. Louise enjoyed walking, listening to gospel music, and spending time with family and friends.
A lifelong member of First Assembly of God Church in Florala, Louise cherished her church and church family. Her faith was an important part of her life and served as a source of strength and comfort through the years.
Family meant everything to Louise. She deeply loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Among her greatest joys was being called "Granny" and "Maw Maw," names she wore with pride and treasured throughout her life.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Polly Strickland; her sons, Jerry Strickland and Billy Strickland; and her daughter, Teena Strickland Birge.
She is survived by her daughter, Sheila Anderson (Todd); her sons, Mark Strickland (Kay) and Jim Strickland (Laura); her brother, Eugene Newberry; her sisters, Marie Davis and Carolyn Thompson; as well as an abundance of extended family members, including numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other loved ones who will cherish her memory for years to come.
Funeral services for Mrs. Louise Strickland will be 3:00 p.m. Friday, June 12, 2026, at Evans Funeral Home with Rev. Jackie Davis officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Though her family grieves her passing, they rejoice in a life well lived and in the many memories she leaves behind. Louise's legacy of faith, hard work, love, and devotion to family will continue to live on through all who knew and loved her.
