Lonnie Dewayne (Hippie) Brooks, age 67 passed away September 30,2023 surrounded by his family.

A lifelong resident of Florala, he was born in Opp, Al to Lonnie Ray and Julie Brooks. He was employed as a telecommunications technician at Florala Telephone Company and retired after 30 plus years of service. After his retirement, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, farming, spending time with his grandchildren and helping in his community as often as needed.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his son Kenneth Brooks.

He is survived by two sons, Jeremy Brooks, Kevin (Megan) Brooks, and his daughter Nikki Thomas all of Florala, Al. Grandchildren, Alyssa Brown, Christian & Caleb Brooks, Ayden & Ayzlee Brooks, Hannah McCulligh, Avery Paul, Julie & Hollie Brooks, Garrett & Riley Thomas. His two sisters, Sharlon (Jackie) Robinette of Enterprise, Al, Debra Hughes of Florala, Al & his best friend Patty Hughes. Niece, Michelle & nephews, Chris, David, Hunter, Johnathan & Jacob. Special ones he considered his own sons, David Danley, Hunter Hughes, Chase Norman, & Lil' Roy Lawrence. He was known as "Pawpaw" to many including, Tanner & Connor Danley, Brinlee Taylor, Chanley Hughes, Sawyer Norman, McKenzie & Case Lawrence.

"Hippie" was well known & loved by his family & community.

Funeral services for Lonnie Dewayne (Hippie) Brooks will be 2PM Wednesday October 4,2023 at Evans Funeral Home with Billy Pickron and Kevin Brooks officiating. Interment immediately following in the Brook's Cemetery on Babe Lawrence Road in Florala, Al. Visitation will be Tuesday October 3,2023 from 6-8PM at Evans Funeral Home.
