Obituary

Lewis Harvey Collins III, age 59, of DeFuniak Springs, passed away peacefully on May 10, 2026. Born September 10, 1966, in San Diego, he was the son of Lewis Harvey Collins Jr. and Betty Suttles Collins.

Lewis faithfully served for 38 years full-time with the Alabama National Guard. Throughout his career, he was known for his remarkable work ethic, unwavering integrity, and exceptional knowledge and skill in his profession. He earned the deep respect of his co-workers and fellow professionals through his dedication, humility, and steadfast character.

Outside of his work, Lewis found joy in life's simple blessings. He loved fishing and boating and was especially gifted in woodworking, creating with his hands things that reflected both patience and craftsmanship. In the fall, he could always be found cheering on the Alabama Crimson Tide. Yet nothing in this world meant more to Lewis than his family, especially his grandchildren. Being "PawPaw" was one of the greatest joys of his life.

Most importantly, Lewis's trust in Jesus Christ sustained him as he courageously battled many health issues over the years. Through every hardship, he remained strong in spirit and faithful in heart. Truly, Lewis fought the good fight, kept the faith, and finished the race.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother; his sister, Toni Collins; and his nephew, Justin Morgan.

Lewis is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Amelia Collins; his sons, Lewis S. Collins (Robin), Josh Collins (Kelly Anne), and Levi Collins (Allison); his daughter, Missy Dean (Dakota); and his eight beloved grandchildren, Jaxton, Colter, Hunter, Sophia, Emma, Tinsley, Hayzel, and Raylee.

Funeral services for Lewis Harvey Collins III will be held Friday, May 15, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Evans Funeral Home with Chris Davenport officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.

Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery with full military honors.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Lewis' memory be made to The Gideons International, P.O. Box 140800, Nashville, Tennessee 37214-0800.
