LeahAnn
Wilkerson
Apr 5, 1942 — Oct 27, 2026
Paxton
LeahAnn Wilkerson, age 84, of Paxton, Florida, passed away October 27, 2026. She was born April 5, 1942, to Hosie Jackson and Hazel Miller Jackson.
LeahAnn graduated as valedictorian of Paxton High School in 1959 and went on to earn her teaching degree from Florida State University. She devoted more than 30 years to education, beginning her career at Rutherford High School in Panama City and later serving as a guidance counselor at Pensacola High School. She truly loved teaching, and her work as a guidance counselor held a special place in her heart. Helping young people recognize their abilities, find direction, and believe in their futures brought her great joy.
Raised on a farm, LeahAnn treasured the memories of her early years and remained a country girl at heart. She had a tender affection for animals, especially cats and dogs. Her interest in history and genealogy reflected her deep appreciation for family and the generations who came before her. She enjoyed tracing her roots and discovering the stories that connected her family’s past to the present.
Music was another source of joy in LeahAnn’s life, and Elvis Presley always held a special place in her heart. She would laughingly recall her teenage years, when she referred to herself as a “bopper.” With a natural sense of rhythm and a talent for dancing, she knew how to enjoy a good song. Elvis’s music brought back happy memories of her youth and reflected the lively spirit that remained a part of her throughout her life.
LeahAnn took pride in caring for herself and staying active. Her trips to the gym were as much about the friendships and conversations as the exercise. She never met a stranger and could find something to talk about with just about anyone. Always beautifully dressed and put together, she had impeccable taste and enjoyed shopping at Talbots, choosing clothing that reflected her timeless sense of style.
Among her favorite outings were visits to Summer’s Country Kitchen, where she gathered with old friends, especially Dickie Steele, to reminisce about the good old days. Those familiar faces, shared stories, and moments of laughter meant so much to her.
A lifelong Presbyterian, LeahAnn was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Florala, Alabama, and remained active in her church as long as her health permitted. Her faith and the fellowship of her church family were enduring parts of her life.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny Wilkerson, and her parents, Hosey and Hazel Miller Jackson.
LeahAnn is survived by her daughter, Lisa Burrell; her son, Kevin Wilkerson; and an abundance of extended loved ones, including Tom Pittman (Clara), Clay Pittman, Phil Pittman, Carolyn Miller Wilkerson and family, Shirley Hayes and family and Joel Miller and family.
Her warmth, lively spirit, love of conversation, and appreciation for the people and places that shaped her life will be fondly remembered by all who knew her.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, November 1, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. at Evans Funeral Home, with Bill Richoux officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Miller Cemetery. Flowers are accepted or donation can be made in memory of LeahAnn to the First Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 322, Florala, AL 36442.
