Obituary

Jimmy Don Carnley, age 74, of Florala, Alabama, passed away peacefully on November 6th, 2025. Born in Paxton, Florida, on January 24, 1951, Jimmy lived a life full of love, adventure, and dedication to family and community.

A lifelong educator and coach, Jimmy served as a PE teacher, basketball, baseball and football coach, inspiring generations of young athletes with his wisdom, patience, and passion for the games. He enjoyed running into his former students who lovingly still referred to him as, "Coach." Jimmy taught at Meigs Junior High School, Crestview High School, Florala City School and W.S Harlan Elementary School. He loved all of his students and enjoyed teaching for a total of 28 years. Known as a jack of all trades, he found joy in fishing, hunting, and restoring vintage vehicles — always with a steady hand and a curious mind. Jimmy was the only person in Florida to be elected Mayor as a write in candidate; He served as the Mayor of Paxton Florida-an accomplishment he held in high value. Jimmy was also a long-time member of Lockhart Baptist Church.

Jimmy was a devoted family man who cherished time spent with his wife, sons and grandchildren. Whether sharing stories, casting lines, turning wrenches, or antiquing, he created lasting memories filled with laughter and love. He and his beloved wife of 38 years, Belinda, shared many adventures throughout the years, building a life rooted in partnership and joy.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, John Wesley Carnley Sr. and Madonna Carnley; his sisters, Gloria Holley and Glenda Bivins; and his brother, John "Jake" Carnley Jr.

He is survived by his wife, Belinda; his brothers, Jackie (Annie Sue) and Robert Carnley (Pat); his sister, Shirley Robinson; his sons, Gary (April) Carnley, David (Lorna) Carnley, and Kevin (Melissa) Goolsby; grandchildren Heather (Ryan) Simmons, Alex (Ariel) Westergreen, Hunter Carnley, Hanna Carnley (Justin Shaw), Lauren Carnley (Sebastian Salazar), and John Spencer Goolsby; great-grandchildren Easton Moore, Emmett Simmons, and Allie Westergreen; Brother-in- Law, Ron (Stephanie) Hargrove; Nephew, Chase (Hannah) Hargrove; Niece, Mallory Hargrove; Great Niece, Violet Hargrove and many other nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Jimmy's legacy lives on in the hearts of those who knew him — a man of strength, kindness, and unwavering love. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
