Obituary

Master Sergeant (Ret.) James Curtis Davis 85, of Florala passed away peacefully on July 31, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and servant to his country and community, Jim leaves behind a legacy of honor, service and selfless dedication.

Born March 1, 1940, Jim answered his nation's call with pride and integrity. He served over 20 years in the United States Air Force, rising to the rank of Master Sergeant. His distinguished military career was marked by a steadfast commitment to excellence, leadership, and the unwavering support of his fellow airmen.

After retiring from the military, Jim continued his lifelong commitment to public service, serving as Fire Chief of the Niceville Fire Department for over a decade. Under his leadership, the department grew in strength, capability and reputation. He was a steady presence in times of crisis, a mentor to countless young firefighters and a calming voice of wisdom in moments of urgency.

Jim was a proud Mason and Shriner. He believed in the power of brotherhood and service, and he lived those values every day. A dedicated family man, Jim found his greatest joy in coaching youth football and baseball, especially alongside his sons. Whether on the field teaching fundamentals or off the field instilling character and discipline, Jim gave guidance to generations of young athletes in his community.

In his free time, Jim was an avid hunter and fisherman, happiest when out in nature, whether in a tree stand or on the water at dawn. He cherished the quiet moments in God's creation and often shared them with his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by wife, Laura Davis, sons, Jimmy Davis and Michael Davis (Kecia), daughter, Kelly Flores, sister, Betty Vaughn, grandchildren, Tyler Davis, Scotty Davis, Sloane Davis Money, Brooke Davis, Bailey Davis and Conner Hughes. He is also survived by numerous great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by grandson, Travis Davis.
