Obituary

Gerald Wendell Kilpatrick transitioned peacefully from an earthly life to an eternal one with Jesus on Sunday, February 16, 2025. He was a lifelong member of Christian Home United Methodist Church.

G erald was preceded in death by his parents Arthur & Ethel Kilpatrick, and his wife Judy Kilpatrick. He is survived by his children Gregg (Janet) Kilpatrick & their children Kayla and Kelsey; Rick Kilpatrick & his daughter Savannah; Angie (Darren) Etheridge & their children Kahley, Garrett, Breana, & Amber; and Marc (Holly) Kilpatrick & their children Sarah & Noah. He is also survived by his seven great grandchildren Jameson, Brynn, Tristan, Emmalyn, Jace, Avery Kate, Layton, and Everlee; five siblings (Edith, Ray, Nell, Betty, & Bea); and many other extended family members.

Gerald was born the 11th of 12 children and was raised in Florala, Alabama. From early on Gerald was the one who entertained family & friends with fun stories, jokes, guitar playing, and his wonderful voice. Gerald served honorably in the United States Army; including time in Korea, before returning to the Florala area where he met & married Judy (Carnley) and built a wonderful life with his family. Gerald could fix anything and his professional work focused on all things mechanical from appliances to aircraft. He ended his career spending 20 years as an HVAC Specialist for the Okaloosa County School District. While he did not miss the long drive to work each day, he did miss friends who shared those rides and many others he knew during that time.

Gerald also spent much of his life farming, both in the field with crops and in the pasture with cattle. He had a relentless work ethic and a desire to offer his time and skills to help others, frequently without even being asked. After retiring, he directed attention towards meticulously maintaining his property, growing tomatoes, and nurturing his many fruit trees. He loved being on his lawnmower and tractor. He even built and maintained a makeshift golf course, which he played on often and it became a source of great enjoyment for him and many others.

Gerald/Dad/Papa/PapaGee loved his family deeply. His humor and silliness are hallmarks of his magnetic personality. He loved his Alabama Crimson Tide football, watching golf, keeping up with the weather and news, and playing dominoes.

Gerald lived most of his 85+ years on the same road, with his home simply referred to as 'The Farm'. While Gerald's home on Earth will never be the same without him, it is impossible to look around it and not see him in all he built there and cherished.
