Emmett M. Chambers, long time resident of Florala,  passed away on Saturday, July 10, 2021 at age 92, in Carmel, Indiana, where he was living with his sister, Flora Chambers Saunders.
Emmett was born in 1928 and grew up in Florala.  He enlisted the Unites States Army at age 17 and served in the 88th Infantry Division "Blue Devils". He was a "Cannoneer" on the northern Italy border with Yougoslavia during the fierce battle in the Po Valley Campaign.
Corporal Emmett Chambers was honorably discharged from the Army Quartermaster Corps in Ft. Bliss, Texas.
He began working in various Civil Service positions at Eglin Field, (now Eglin Air Force Base) and he retired with 26 years of service as an Aircraft Battery Inspector Aviation Inspector in 1977. While working at Eglin he also maintained a farm of crops and cattle in Laruel Hill, Florida. Emmett
later in that year, he moved to Midwest City, OK near his sister, Flora, and then in 2010 he joined Flora and her husband, Fred, when they moved to Camel, Indiana, to be near their daughter.  Anticipating a snowy Indiana winter he returned to Florala and lived in his childhood home.
In his younger years Emmett enjoyed huntings, he had a green thumb and always has a vegetable garden.  As he got older he enjoyed planting spring bulbs and seasonal flowers around the house.  Wherever he lived he was a faithful church member always recognized as a true gentleman.
