Edsel Ray
Miller
Sep 18, 1927 — May 16, 2024
Edsel Ray Miller, 96, went home to be with the Lord May 16, 2024. Edsel was born September 18, 1927, in Coffee Springs, Alabama. He worked over 20 years at Florala City School as the head of maintenance and custodial services. He then served over 20 years as the custodian at the First Baptist Church in Florala, Alabama. Edsel also served his country as a member of the Alabama Army National Guard.
Edsel truly had a servant's heart. He was a quiet man whose actions spoke much louder than his words. For many years he drove the church van picking up elderly members to bring them to church. He was often called on by members of the community to repair items around their homes. He was happiest when he was working in the yard or in his shop. Edsel could "fix anything" and "grow anything". He grew a beautiful vegetable garden every year to take care of his family.
Edsel was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Sarah Morgan Miller, and his parents, Oyer L. and Mabel Miller, as well as six of his eight siblings. He is survived by his only sister, Sara Gautney, of Opp, Alabama; and one of his brothers, Harry Miller of Milton, Florida. Edsel has four daughters—Robin Fralish (David) of Niceville, Florida; Rhonda Lloyd (CN) of Red Level, Alabama; Rebecca Elmore (Eric) of Andalusia, Alabama; and Renee' Duke (Brannon) of Straughn, Alabama. He is also survived by five loving grandchildren—Bethany Fralish Aramayo, Zachary Fralish, Caitlyn Lloyd, Natalie Duke and Tobias Duke. He loved being their "Granddaddy".
Edsel's family would like to thank the First Baptist Church of Florala, the Florala Senior Center and Opp Health and Rehabilitation Center for their care and concern over many years.
Funeral services will be Tuesday May 21, 2024, at 11:00 A.M. at the First Baptist Church in Florala with Charlie Lennard, James Pickron and Chris Davenport officiating. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday evening May 20, 2024, from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M.
Donations may be made in memory of Edsel to the First Baptist Church of Florala.
