Duford "Shep" Mims passed away on August 18th, 2021 at the age of 82 at his home. Shep was kind-hearted and had such a sense of humor where he didn't even have to try, it came naturally to make people smile and laugh. He would say, he didn't have a lot but he worked hard for everything he did have and that was something to be proud of… and it was!! He would do anything for his daughters, grandkids and anything for anyone in need of help. Because that's just how he was… selfless and such a loving man! Shep was always a believer, since he was little, but never thought he was worthy or could be forgiven for all the mistakes he made.  So, he didn't attend church anywhere or even really talk to anyone about it, he just was so proud and happy when he saw his daughter follow the Lord and her kids too! He would bow his head and pray silently with whomever, because he didn't feel like he knew the words worthy to speak to Him. Thankfully, he did talk and share with his sisters about his feelings and he did ask the Good Lord for forgiveness and asked him to come into his heart! So… it's never too late and we are ALL worthy through the blood of Jesus Christ! Duford "Shep" Mims… is SO loved and will be desperately missed as a Dad, Pawpaw, brother, father-in-law, friend and confidant.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Bent and Bill and his sister Jean.

He is survived by his oldest daughter, Sonya Fink, his youngest daughter Lori Mock and her husband David. Five grandkids: Rodney Fink, Ryan Jacobs and his wife Roxi, Macy Fink and her fiancé Stephen, Zack Fink, and Cody Johnson and his fiancée Logan. One great grandson, Cooper, son to Ryan and Roxi.

A very special thanks goes out to Chan Bozeman. She is a dear friend that helped us out when we needed it most! She was an excellent caregiver and friend to him for around 3 months, but now, she is family! We love and appreciate you so much for all you did and treating him as though he was your own dad!

Now everyone… Help us say… Shep it's… See.ya.later… not goodbye!!!

His celebration of life will be Sunday, August 22th, 2021 at Evans Funeral Home. Family at 2pm, public will be received at 3pm, with the service being held at 4pm. A full-honors graveside service will be held immediately following at Gaskin Cemetery.
