On February 12, 2022, Donnie Thornton passed away peacefully at the age of 75.

Donnie was a lifelong resident of Florala, AL. Born in 1946, Donnie grew up in Florala and went on to build and raise a family of his own there too. For many years, Donnie served the state as a Park Ranger in Florala and Opp, AL. He retired from the State of Alabama in 2013.

Donnie enjoyed fishing, camping, and the good company of friends and family. Most of all, he loved family get-togethers on the porch. It was on that porch that many great memories were made and cherished stories told.

Donnie was preceded in death by his parents, Ida and James T. Thornton, his sisters, Louise Miller and Shelby Webster, and brother, Thomas Thornton.

Donnie is survived by his beautiful wife of 57 years, Hellen, and his daughters: Stephanie (Ron) Hargrove of Florala, AL and Donna (Rodney) Thompson of Enterprise, AL. He also leaves behind 4 grandchildren: Amy (Greg) Bondurant, Lisa (Joe) Mertes, Chase (Hannah) Hargrove, and Mallory Hargrove; as well as 3 great grandchildren: Bailey, Hannah, and Taylor.
